National programmes and projects

Finnish public funding agencies channel funds to research through programmes which are focused on a defined subject area, scheduled to run for a set period and composed of several research projects, and through separate projects. A large share of research is carried out in individual companies.

The Academy of Finland is the prime funding agency for basic research. Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation, is the main public funding organisation for applied research, development and innovation. Tekes supports both public research and industry driven research and development. Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund, promotes the welfare of Finnish society by programmes which utilise a wide array of methods, including studies, strategy processes, innovative experiments, business development and corporate funding. Ministry of agriculture and forestry channel funds to research of sustainable development.

 

SAPUSKA − Tekes programme (2008 - 2012)
Finnish funding agency for techonology and innovation (Tekes) has launched a programme to enhance the internationalisation of SME's.

Cluster Programme – Expertise for Food Innovations

At the core of the Food Development Cluster Programme are five Centres of Expertise: Agropolis Ltd. (Jokioinen), Foodwest Ltd. (Seinäjoki), Functional Foods Forum (Turku), Kuopio Innovation Ltd. (Kuopio), Viikki Food Centre (Helsinki). Each centre has its own field of expertise which enables cooperation in development projects.
